Overview
As a Windmill Erection and Commissioning Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of wind turbines and related systems. This includes operating and maintaining turbine equipment, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Erection and Installation: Oversee and participate in the erection of wind turbines, including the assembly and installation of towers, nacelles, rotor blades, and associated equipment.
- Commissioning: Perform commissioning tasks such as electrical connections, hydraulic system setup, and system calibration to ensure turbines are operational and meet performance standards.
- Maintenance and Repair: Operate and maintain wind turbine equipment along with associated infrastructure, including substations, collection, and transmission systems. Perform mechanical and electrical component repairs or replacements as needed.
- Troubleshooting: Read schematics and proficiently troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems, including variable pitch and variable speed control systems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with OEM maintenance manuals, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet wind plant reporting requirements. Document maintenance, repairs, and performance metrics.
- Quality Assurance: Perform QA/QC functions, compile and submit supporting documents of items found during inspections and maintenance activities.
- Environmental Health and Safety: Comply with all project environmental health and safety programs and adhere to effective internal controls.
- Retrofitting and Modifications: Perform various retrofits and design modifications as required to improve system performance or address issues.
- Construction Support: If applicable, support construction teams in mechanical and commissioning walk-downs.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Increase professional knowledge of turbine and solar equipment, including safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Be willing to work overtime, including holidays and weekends, and participate in an on-call schedule as needed.
- Travel to other sites on short notice, with about 10-15% travel required.
- Work around low, medium, and high voltage systems.
- Adapt to and work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
